EAST BAY HILLS FIRE (aka Tunnel Fire)

In October 1991, a devastating and tragic wildfire occurred in the hills of the California cities of Oakland and Berkeley. The fire has been known since then as the Tunnell Fire or the East Bay Hills Fire.

The fire ultimately killed 25 people and injured more than 150 others. More than 3,000 structures were burned during this conflagration.

Much was said and written following the fire, but many of the hazards that existed then seem to still exist more than 25 years later. To many, it's only a matter of time until East Bay Hills Fire ver. 2.0 occurs.
